Mission Statement
Equipping others with essential tools and resources for them to live their best life, by inspiring curiosity for self-healing and encouraging them to be the best version of themselves in order to achieve their full potential.
Vision
My aim is to guide you and provide strategies that build resilience and confidence, develop skills around self-control, challenge negative thoughts and behaviour patterns, and equip you with healthier lifestyle habits.
About Me
Hi, my name is Belinda, and I am a registered psychologist who works across the lifespan. I have a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) degree through the University of Newcastle, and an Advanced Diploma of Transpersonal Therapy (Art Therapy) through The College of Complementary Medicine in Sydney.
I like to focus on the “what has happened to you” rather than “what is wrong with you”. Focusing on a holistic approach to mental health.
Therapy is delivered using a person-centered trauma informed approach, which takes into consideration life experiences and social context. I provide a safe and respectful space for you to explore different techniques that will help you to navigate and explore the current difficulties you are facing.
Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS)
AHPRA Registration Number: PSY0002026225
I use a variety of techniques/models to support and guide our work including:
o Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT);
o Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT);
o Collaborative Problem-Solving Techniques (CPS);
o Mindfulness and relaxation approaches;
o Play based therapy;
o Art and Creative Therapy Techniques, including Transpersonal Art Therapy techniques; and
o Parenting support for children with difficult behaviours.
I see people with a range of mental health struggles including but not all: anxiety, depression, OCD, children with social/emotional and behavioural difficulties, autism spectrum, attention problems (ADHD), pathological demand avoidance (PDA), and parenting struggles.
What is Transpersonal Art Therapy
Transpersonal Art Therapy is a holistic approach which recognises and focuses on your own psychological, social, cultural, biological, ecological and spiritual background. Transpersonal can be defined as “beyond the personal” or “beyond the mask”. It enables a way of mapping both your external and internal worlds and allows you to explore your own personal imagery. The art expressions created may help bring about new understandings, insights, and healing. It is a form of therapy that allows you to discover and explore situations that you find difficult to discuss using words. It also enables you to explore your unconscious thinking and self-expression, to identify supporting unconscious thoughts you sometimes struggle to understand.
Creative expression may utilise:
- Music;
- Movement;
- Relaxation, visualisation, and guided imagery;
- Role playing;
- Exploring dreams and symbols;
- Creative art expression using paint, pencils, oil pastels, and various art material;
- Exploring masks, fairy tales, and myths;
- Mandala’s;
- Playdough/Clay works; and
- Creative writing / poems.
Art therapy focuses on the creative process rather than the end product and through reflection and dialoguing with the art work, it gives you an opportunity to explore and express various life issues in a safe and respectful environment.
I aim to provide a safe comfortable space for you to connect with your internal world and allow you to explore the images and symbols that arise and help express what is needed when words may not be enough, or you find expressing your thoughts using words difficult.
Transpersonal art therapy is a powerful and insightful way to explore and support a variety of mental health struggles including depression, anxiety, trauma, personality and identity concerns, autism spectrum, grief and loss, changes in life / transitions, body image concerns, sleep issues and dreams, attention problems, and relationship breakdowns.
